The background simulation

The background of my homepage is a two-dimensional simulation of magnetized gas and charged dust. It runs on your graphics processor through WebGL2.

The gas uses a finite-volume MHD solver. Dust particles respond to drag and magnetic forces. Moving the pointer stirs the gas, and the particles respond to that motion.

Open Play to change the settings. Freeze pauses the calculation; Bare hides the text for a clearer view. The initial state is paused so you can read without running the simulation.

This is an interactive demonstration. My research uses larger, three-dimensional simulations in RAMSES and RAMSES-GPU.
